Hovertravel Retains Green Marine Europe Certification for Second Year

Hovertravel is proud to announce that it has retained its Green Marine Europe certification for the second consecutive year, building on its groundbreaking achievement as the first UK domestic ferry company to receive this accolade in 2023 for its efforts in 2022. This certification reflects Hovertravel’s continued dedication to reducing its environmental impact and enhancing sustainability practices through its HoverGreen initiative.



Green Marine is the leading environmental certification program for Europe’s maritime industry, addressing critical environmental issues such as air, water, and soil quality, as well as community relations. It is a voluntary program that enables maritime organisations to surpass regulatory requirements, continuously improving their environmental performance. Hovertravel’s certification is a testament to its commitment to a rigorous and externally verified process, which includes on-site audits and thorough evaluations of its sustainability measures.

Brendan Beattie, Hovertravel’s Marine Safety and Environmental Officer, expressed his satisfaction with the company’s continued success:

The certification highlights Hovertravel’s adherence to strict external verification conditions, ensuring its environmental performance continues to meet the high standards required by Green Marine.

Green Marine Europe, which now includes 66 members across 10 European countries, has seen significant growth in participation, encompassing shipowners, shipyards, environmental organisations, and scientific institutions, among others. This broadening network reflects the increasing importance of sustainable practices in the maritime industry and strengthens Hovertravel’s place within this forward-thinking community.
