Vacancy - Hovercraft Master

We are seeking an experienced Hovercraft Master to safely operate and command our hovercraft service between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. You will lead by example, delivering safe, efficient and punctual operations while promoting a strong safety culture, professionalism and excellent customer experience.

You will provide leadership to crew and operations staff, support training and development, and work closely with engineering and management teams to ensure a reliable and high-quality service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Command and operate company hovercraft in line with SOPs and legislation
  • Act as Master with full responsibility for safety, compliance and professionalism
  • Lead crews during normal operations and emergency situations
  • Deliver operational efficiency and punctuality
  • Train, mentor and assess crew members
  • Promote and maintain high safety, environmental and customer service standards
  • Support and develop the Safety Management and Quality Management Systems
  • Act as a professional ambassador for Hovertravel with customers and stakeholders

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must hold a valid STCW95 Certificate of Competence, including one of the following:

  • Master II/2 or II/3 (including hovercraft-limited CoC where applicable)
  • Eligible Chief Mate or OOW qualifications subject to MCA upgrade requirements

You must also hold (or be willing to obtain):

  • ENG1 medical certificate
  • Elementary First Aid
  • GMDSS Restricted Radio Operator’s Licence
  • Personal Sea Survival (PST)

Successful candidates will complete company HSC Type Rating Training and annual line checks in accordance with MCA requirements.
