Supporting the Commercial team with day to day customer service activities via telephone, web and live chat, generating sales and assisting customers with their travel needs. Additional commercial support activities for new business, digital, marketing, and events.


This is an office based role, but the successful candidate may be expected to attend events, assist with excursions/operational duties to provide commercial support where necessary.


This is a great foundation for a future commercial or customer service role.

  • 12-month Fixed Term Contract
  • 36 hours per week - Monday - Friday 
  • NVQ qualification in partnership with South Downs College
  • Free Hovercraft travel  



  • Customer Service – handling enquiries and bookings via telephone, Live Chat,  and email. Striving to meet achievable sales and telephone answering targets
  • Ensure all ‘up selling’ opportunities are maximised
  • Fulfilment of corporate bookings
  • Administration and collection of data for marketing content


Sales & Marketing

  • Fulfilment of third party bookings online and to database
  • Accurate data entry
  • Administration assistance
  • Loading of content to the website
  • Scheduling of posts for social media



Loyalty Development

  • Dealing with blue card enquiries
  • Blue card customer set up (including adding data to system, card set up and mail merging for distribution)


Ancillary sales

  • Up-selling of merchandise through all engagement channels
  • Assist with managing online shops (ebay, Amazon etc.) and order fulfilment/distribution

Preferred Qualities

  • Excellent written and IT skills particularly in the use of MS office.
  • Personable, presentable and articulate individual
  • Good listening and questioning skills to establish the needs of the customers mostly over the telephone and convert to sales where possible.
  • Excellent telephone manner and communications skills to enable interaction with staff and members of the public

This is a great opportunity to work for the world's longest running commercial hovercraft service, which is also the only scheduled passenger hovercraft service in Europe.  All staff are required to carry out a range of Hovercraft handling related activities as directed by the Company through its policies, procedures and training to facilitate the success of the operation in which you have been trained, including, but not limited to the following:

  • 12-month Fixed Term Contract
  • NVQ Customer Service Level 2 - in partnership with South Down College.

Front of House

  • Assist with the control of passengers and the general public in and around the terminal building.
  • Manage the queues outside the terminal, directing passengers or assisting with queries, as appropriate.
  • Generate business by pro-actively promoting Hovertravel outside the terminal.
  • Answer in-bound telephone calls.

Passenger Service

  • Sell and issue published flight tickets
  • Operate and maintain the Company ticketing and booking system.
  • Receive payment by cash, cheque, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.

Terminal Operations

  • Manage the boarding process within the terminal and on the landing area.
  • Assist passengers with their luggage, ensuring passengers safely embark and disembark from the craft.
  • Loading and unloading the hovercraft of freight and luggage
  • Supervise the craft departure or travel with the craft when required.
  • Be responsible for the safety of passengers, dealing with security and emergency situations in and around the terminal and on- board.
  • Attend to passengers' needs throughout their Hovertravel experience and provide a high level of customer service being friendly, enthusiastic and courteous at all times.

Qualifications Required

You must have a Level 1 in English and Maths (GCSE A-D) or equivalent.

Working Week

The successful candidates will work a rolling shift pattern of 2 earlies, 2 lates & 2 days off, timings as follows:

PM 1300-2115*


AM 0715-1415

PM 1400-2115*

We're seeking a maintenance engineer with a background and experience in marine or automotive engineering. 

  • 36 hours per week

  • Shift pattern (2 earlies, 2 lates, 2 off, 2 on-call)

  • Based in Ryde, Isle of Wight

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the Hovercraft at Ryde are maintained in accordance with the relevant maintenance schedule.


Key Responsibilities

  • Execution of preventative and corrective maintenance programmes
  • Conduct scheduled checks on craft, parts and ground equipment
  • Diagnose and repair faults and breakdown problems
  • Overhaul and replace parts according to maintenance schedule
  • Maintenance of safety equipment ensuring within certification dates
  • Conducting quality inspections on all work carried out
  • Responding to craft breakdowns and dealing with emergency breakdowns as they occur
  • Recommending cost efficient engineering solutions

We are looking for a full time Hovercraft Pilot to join our team on based on the Isle of Wight. This is a full time vacancy (36 hours per week) however we would consider candidates looking for a flexible or part time work arrangement.

In order to take command of a hovercraft on this route, an individual must hold one of the following STCW95 Certificates of Competence (CoC);

  • Master II/2 or 11/3, (Unlimited, <3000GT, or <500GT)
  • Master II/3, limited to "Hovercraft less than 500GT on near-coastal voyages only"
  • Appropriately qualified seafarers may apply to obtain this CoC issued by the MCA under STCW regulation II/3 as stated in MGN1856 and with reference to Annex D therein. In recognitions of this, applications will be welcomed from holders of: Chief Mate II/2 or II/3 (Unlimited, or 3000GT)

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee the creating and posting of weekly and monthly sales orders through Sage
  • Oversee Credit Control within the company, collecting outstanding debt in an efficient and effective manner and ensuring debtor days are kept to an acceptable level.
  • Prepare and post daily sales journals
  • Oversee the maintenance of the buttons on the cashiers’ tills
  • Assist with monthly bank reconciliations
  • Oversee purchase ledger, ensuring entries are accurate, ageing is reasonable and balances remain clearly reconciled
  • Administer the handling of season ticket direct debit collections
  • Overseeing souvenir stock ensuring accurate reporting to Commercial team
  • General accounts and administration duties
  • To provide a high standard of service to customers in accordance with company policy

Skills Required

  • At least 3 year + relevant experience
  • Ability to work alone and also in a small team
  • Competent Excel user
  • Effective communicator both verbally and written
  • High level of accuracy
  • Good level of spoken and written English
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public
  • Experience using Sage 200 advantageous
