What is All Along The Riverbank?
All Along the Riverbank is a delightful outdoor arts and countryside festival taking place in May.
It provides a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the countryside, and discover more about the local environment with family and friends. The event, now in its third year, is held alongside a stretch of the River Yar between Sandown and Newchurch.
This area is home to an abundance of diverse plants and wildlife, social history, rich archaeological finds, woodland and marsh nature reserve. Visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or ride the two mile long trail at their own pace.
A range of partners, including local environmental and community organisations will be providing a range of fun activities and fascinating information along the route.
Children and community members have created nature inspired temporary art installations, and there will also be Morris and Maypole dancing, storytelling, and the special Green Man of Alverstone to discover beside the riverbank.
Visitors can choose to join the trail at its Sandown or Newchurch end, or halfway along at Alverstone, and there will be refreshments and toilets at each stop.
