HOVERTRAVEL ADDS TO MORNING PEAK SERVICES01/02/2012
Hovertravel is adding the 8:30am hovercraft service from Ryde to Portsmouth due to popular commuter demand.
Neil Chapman, managing director of Hovertravel, said: “We are always listening to the needs of customers so we can ensure that our services suit their schedules. Feedback over the last month has revealed that an extra service during the morning commuter peak period would make a big difference to our Island commuters.”
Hovertravel has seen growth over the last 6 months in travel from the Island. In particular the morning commuter period has a more concentrated flow of passengers during 7:15 and 8:45.
Neil Chapman continues, “Currently, Hovertravel has the biggest market share in our history. One of the areas of steady growth for us has been from regular travellers and commuters. This is why we have put in place initiatives for us to listen better to their needs through channels such as the Hovertravel User Group. The addition of the 8:30am hovercraft service is a great example of where we have listened and responded quickly.”
To ensure that Hovertravel develops in a way that benefits our customers, Hovertravel has been running a Hovertravel User Group (HUG). This group, made up of a small number of regular travellers, meets for quarterly meetings to voice issues and improvements direct with Hovertravel’s management.
Hovertravel has also launched a new appreciation voucher scheme as a small way of thanking their loyal customers. Those who purchase an Adult 6 month season card, Adult 250 travel card or Triple Term card can claim for 20 single appreciation vouchers that are valid for one single journey and can be transferred to friends & family. Customers that purchase an Adult 12 month season card can claim for 40 Appreciation vouchers.

HOVERTRAVEL SNOW POLICY16/12/2011
It is Hovertravel's mission to keep operating, even during the worst winter snow storms, as long as it is safe for passengers and staff. In 2010 we kept our service running, through the most severe snowfalls in the last 20 years, by applying our snow rules and the ongoing dedication of our staff.
1. Staff will only make their way to work if they can do so safely.
2. Ensure that the terminals are completely safe for our customers by clearing all paths, steps and walkways.
3. All areas used by staff but not by customers should also be cleared of snow.
4. The pads should be cleared of snow so customers can walk safely out to the craft.
5. All staff should be aware that embarking and disembarking may take longer as passengers will be taking extra care when walking and climbing the steps.
6. If snow is still falling, then the Hovertravel umbrellas should be used to shelter customers as they walk to and from the terminals.
7. Some passengers such as the elderly or young children may need extra assistance; we will ensure we offer as much help as needed.
8. Snow will not affect the craft's operation so the normal timetable will be adhered to.

HOVERTRAVEL STATEMENT - BACK IN SERVICE21/11/2011
Hovertravel is pleased to announce that hovercraft services between Ryde, Isle of Wight and Southsea, Portsmouth have recommenced. This follows a thorough inspection of the entire fleet of hovercraft, and full certification of the vessels' safety and compliance with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) regulations.
The service was temporarily suspended last Friday (18th November), following an incident on 30th October involving the propeller on the largest hovercraft in the company's fleet. Over the weekend both Hovertravel and the MCA have inspected the other two operating hovercraft, which are of a different design and type, to ensure their continued safety and compliance to operate.
"The safety of our passengers, staff and vessels is of paramount importance to us," Neil Chapman, Managing Director said. "Hovertravel has operated for many decades with an outstanding safety record and clearly puts safety as the number one priority. I know that the decision to suspend our services completely has caused significant inconvenience to all of our customers and I can only apologise to them, personally, for that disruption. There was no question of us operating until both the company and our regulatory authority, the MCA, were completely satisfied with our safety compliance.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their patience and all of our staff, who have worked tirelessly throughout the weekend, to manage this difficult situation and enable operations to resume. I would also like to thank Wightlink for their help in meeting the extra demand on their services."
"Hovertravel is a long standing and familiar part of the Solent, operating for over forty years and, as well as being a vital commuter link for the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth communities, is a popular tourist attraction," Neil Chapman continued. "We are now looking forward to getting back to doing what we do best, operating the fastest link between the mainland and the Isle of Wight."
Hovertravel will be operating a temporary revised timetable using one hovercraft, until the second hovercraft is serviceable, following the propellers being refitted. Services will run every 30 minutes during peak commuter times and every hour at other times. Please see our timetable at www.hovertravel.com.
Hovertravel season and travel card holders, and those in possession of other pre-paid tickets have been provided with free of charge vouchers by Hovertravel in order to able travel on Wightlink during the suspension.

HOVERTRAVEL’S LATE SERVICES CAMPAIGN SHORTLISTED17/10/2011
Hovertravel, the fastest Isle of Wight passenger service across the Solent, has had their late services PR campaign shortlisted in the CIPR Pride awards in the Consumer Relations category, through their PR agency SRF Integrated Communications.
With a launch date of 01 April 2011, Hovertravel made the decision to extend their timetable into the evening so that customers could enjoy more of the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth’s attractions for longer. This was the first time in over a decade that such an amendment had been made to the timetable and it was especially important that Hovertravel’s audiences were well informed. Through the use of photography, competitions, posters, partner discounts and an introductory offer whereby tickets were sold for just £1 for a special two week period, the campaign ensured the timetable changes were known in advance. Importance was placed on keeping the media well informed and Hovertravel also hosted an invitation-only VIP reception held at a Southsea beach front restaurant which the Mayor of Ryde attended.
Culminating in a synchronised switch on of search lights at both the Ryde and Southsea hover terminals on the day the late services started, the campaign has encouraged more customers to use the hovercraft because of the extended timetable and assisted in Hovertravel growing their market share.
The CIPR Pride awards recognise excellence and reward achievement in public relations and communications in the PR industry throughout the UK.

The feedback has been highly positive and we are proud to be the first seaside town to offer hovercraft pleasure trips.” The hovercraft picked up and set off from the eastern end of the Esplanade and took passengers out on a scenic cruise onto the English Channel.
Neil Chapman, managing director of Hovertravel, said: “We have wanted to take our iconic craft to a variety of destinations but it was Arun District Council who arranged for us to make this inaugural trip to Sussex. As we carried almost 100 passengers on the day we are delighted about the appeal of these pleasure trips and hope to be back again in the summer holidays.” As well as visitors and residents, customers from Butlins also joined some of the pleasure trips. Nick Joy, Resort Leisure Activities manager, said, " It was a great experience for us. I can tell you people were talking about it all over town and here at Butlins."

Hovertravel reveals islander focus for festival01/06/2011
Hovertravel, the fastest Isle of Wight passenger service across the Solent, has unveiled some of the developments it will be putting in place for the forthcoming Isle of Wight Festival.
Neil Chapman, Hovertravel managing director said: "We have spent a great deal of time and effort looking at the lessons we can learn from last year. Additionally by working with Andrew Turner MP, we believe that we can answer the requirements of commuters and local customers as well as supporting the festival itself."
Hovertravel will have a priority boarding system which will fast-track commuters and regular Island customers on to the hovercraft, essentially allowing these customers to automatically jump to the front of any queue.
Hovertravel has made a commitment to give island customers access to standard price fares and even some special offers during the festival weekend. Finally the recent Hovertravel arrangement with the NHS will also allow NHS patients travelling as part of this scheme to use the priority boarding system. Andrew Turner MP adds: "I feel that those of us who live on the Island should not be disadvantaged by the large volumes of passenger traffic using Hovertravel during the festival. Many Islanders rely on this service on a daily basis and even those who are not regular travellers may need to get to the mainland during the festivals. Neil was very open to my suggestions and was keen to learn from the experiences of last year. I am delighted that Hovertravel are showing a genuine commitment to cater for commuters, NHS patients and the local community and I very much welcome the plans to prioritise island residents."
